Product Overview
Short fiber needle punched geotextile is a nonwoven geosynthetic manufactured from dispersed polyester or polypropylene staple fibers through carding and needle punching processes. It offers high porosity, good tensile strength and robustness for demanding geotechnical applications.
What is short fiber nonwoven geotextile?
The fabric is formed by randomly oriented staple fibers that are mechanically entangled by thousands of barbed needles. This three–dimensional structure results in high permeability, optimum pore size distribution and excellent surface roughness, which helps to lock soil particles and resist erosion.
Liaoning Hengyu New Materials Co Ltd operates modern nonwoven production lines with strict control of fiber selection, basis weight, thickness and mechanical properties to meet different international project standards and tender requirements.
Our geotextile can be supplied in white, black or customized colors, with smooth or roughened surface and various roll sizes for easy installation at site.
Typical Applications
- Road and railway subgrade separation between subsoil and base course
- Filtration and drainage behind retaining walls, revetments and gabions
- Reinforcement and protection for geomembrane in landfills and ponds
- Erosion control on slopes, riverbanks and coastal protection works
- Drainage layer for sports fields, golf courses and landscape projects
- Foundation improvement for airports, ports and industrial yards
Key Features & Advantages
Optimized for separation, filtration, drainage, protection and reinforcement in roads, railways, hydraulic and environmental projects.
High filtration efficiency
Well–graded pore size distribution allows water to pass while retaining soil particles, reducing clogging risk and maintaining long–term filtration performance.
Excellent mechanical strength
Needle punched structure delivers good tensile strength, elongation, puncture resistance and tear resistance, suitable for construction traffic and aggregate impact.
Chemical & biological resistance
Stable polyester or polypropylene fibers resist most common chemicals, acids and alkalis in soils and wastewater, and are not affected by bacteria or fungus.
UV and aging performance
With adequate additives and proper covering conditions, the geotextile maintains performance over the full design life of the project.
Easy installation
Light weight, flexible rolls enable fast unrolling, overlapping and seaming on site with simple tools, saving labor cost and construction time.
Customized specifications
From 100 g/m² light separation fabric to 1200 g/m² heavy protection layer, Liaoning Hengyu can adjust weight, thickness, color and roll size according to your requirements.

Production & Quality Control
Liaoning Hengyu New Materials Co Ltd operates integrated nonwoven geotextile production from fiber opening to roll winding. Each step is monitored to ensure stable, reliable performance in real projects.
Manufacturing process
- Careful selection and opening of polyester or polypropylene staple fibers
- Carding and cross–lapping to form uniform fiber web
- Intensive needle punching to entangle the fibers into a coherent fabric
- Heat setting or calendar treatment as required
- Automatic rolling, edge trimming and packaging for transport
The entire line is designed to control basis weight, thickness, tensile properties and permeability, reducing deviation within a narrow tolerance.
Testing & inspection
- Incoming fiber testing for fineness, length and moisture
- Online monitoring of unit weight and thickness
- Routine tensile, elongation and CBR puncture tests
- Permeability and apparent opening size (AOS) tests
- Inspection of roll appearance, width, length and labeling
Test reports and third–party inspection from SGS, BV or other agencies can be arranged according to the requirements of your project or tender.

Short Fiber Geotextile – Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: How can I choose the right weight of geotextile?
The selection depends on application, soil condition, overburden thickness and design life. As a rough guide, 150–300 g/m² is often used for separation and filtration, while 400–800 g/m² is chosen for geomembrane protection and heavy duty projects. Send us your design requirements and our engineers will propose suitable options.
Q2: Can you produce according to our local standard?
Yes. We can adjust production to meet various standards such as ASTM, ISO, EN, GB or specific national specifications. Please share the technical sheet from your project, and Liaoning Hengyu will match or improve the required values.
